Ride Categories for "Road" Rides
Ride Type Average Riding Speed Riders Must Have Rest Stops   
A 17-20 mph advanced cycling skills; spare tube, pump at leader's discretion Ability to ride in paceline required. No requirement to wait for stragglers. Riders are expected to be self-sufficient.
B* 15-17 mph intermediate  cycling skills; spare tube, pump every
20-25 miles
Riders are expected to be self-sufficient.
B 14-16 mph intermediate  cycling skills; spare tube, pump every
15-20 miles
Riders are expected to be self-sufficient.
C 10-13 mph novice-intermediate  cycling skills; spare tube, pump every
10 miles, more often if necessary
Leader will wait at all turns for all riders. Leader and other group members will help with minor repairs.



Terrain Designations
Terrain Type Description
FL Flat with a few small hills
RL Rolling with an equal mix of flat and moderate hills
(e.g. Drumgoole Road, Hylan Boulevard below Richmond Avenue)
HL Primarily hilly with some long climbs
(e.g. Todt Hill Road, Victory Boulevard)
MT Mountainous with severe climbs
(e.g. Hillside Avenue, Lighthouse Road, Emerson Hill Road)
